Florida woman rescued after slip onto rock on Franconia Trail

Aug. 20—A Florida woman was carried off a Franconia trail on Friday afternoon after a fall left her with an injured back.

Kayla Madson, 21, of Melbourne, Fla., was hiking down the Falling Waters trail in Franconia, according to a news release from the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game, when she slipped and fell about seven feet onto rock.

Madson had hurt her back and arm, and she could not walk. State conservation officers with volunteers from the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue and Lakes Region Search and Rescue carried Madson off the trail. She was taken to Littleton Regional Hospital for evaluation.

In a news release, the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game said many hikers have had trouble on the Falling Waters trail near Cloudland Falls in recent weeks. The department recommended hikers climb up Little Haystack on the Falling Waters trail, but descend via the Old Bridle Path.
