Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida, took in 42 sea turtle hatchlings in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias, but has noted that many of them didn’t need to be rescued in the first place.
The zoo said about half of the 42 turtles were in perfect health and did not need to be brought to the zoo or the Sea Turtle Preservation Society. It said some “well-meaning” individuals had been misguided in taking the turtles.
The zoo said it planned to release the healthy turtles on August 3. The hatchlings who “need extra help” will be released later in the week, the zoo said. Credit: Brevard Zoo via Storyful
