The great flour recall of 2019 continues. Just last week, King Arthur voluntarily pulled 14,000 cases due to an E. Coli threat, and now, Pillsbury has followed suit. The brand issued a recall on its Best Bread Flour for the same reason.

According to the FDA, the announcement concerns two lot codes of the 5-pound Bread Flour. In total, 4,620 contaminated cases were were distributed to Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The products in question have UPC codes of 051500200315, lot codes of 8342 and 8343, and best-if-used-by dates of June 8, 2020 and June 9, 2020. Consumers are being urged to check labels and dispose or return of any products that may be affected.

So how did this happen? While there have been no illnesses reported as a result of Pillsbury, the wheat used in the flour was linked to an E. coli outbreak. Symptoms can vary but include stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.

"People usually develop symptoms and get sick 3-4 days after ingesting the germ, and most recover within a week," the FDA continued. "In some cases, individuals may develop a serious illness called hemolytic uremic. Children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and those who are immunocompromised are more susceptible to foodborne illness."

Yea...I do not want that.

Just proceed with caution, double check your products, and *maybe* steer clear of bake sales until we've got the whole flour situation under control.

Also, quick fyi, frozen berries AND Ragu pasta were also recalled. It's been a tough week, and it's only Monday.
