Floyd ‘drugs’ comment at issue in Chauvin trial

The defense attorney for the former Minneapolis police officer on trial in the death of George Floyd has tried to show that Floyd yelled “I ate too many drugs” as officers pinned him to the ground. (April 7)

ERIC NELSON: Did you attempt to understand and hear what various parties were saying at various times?

JAMES REYERSON: Yes.

ERIC NELSON: Do you-- did you ever hear Mr. Floyd say, I eat too many drugs?

JAMES REYERSON: No.

GEORGE FLOYD: [SOBS] [INAUDIBLE].

ERIC NELSON: Did you hear that?

JAMES REYERSON: Yes, I did.

ERIC NELSON: Did it appear that Mr. Floyd said, "I ate too many drugs"?

JAMES REYERSON: Yes, it did.

MATTHEW FRANK: So the record should reflect that we've played through 2020 21:10, with the quote that you were asked about appearing really at 20-- 21:01, correct?

JAMES REYERSON: Yes.

MATTHEW FRANK: Having heard it in context, are you able to tell what Mr. Floyd is saying there?

JAMES REYERSON: Yes, I believe Mr. Floyd was saying, "I ain't do no drugs."

MATTHEW FRANK: So it's a different than what you were asked about, when you only saw a portion of the video, correct?

JAMES REYERSON: Yes, sir.
