Flushed: Lawrence, Jaguars putting loss to Eagles behind them ahead of Texans matchup

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence typically keeps the same routine after road games.

He likes to watch film as soon as possible. So, he gets the film loaded to his iPad as the team airplane takes off.

He’ll watch it for the first half of the flight and take in the performance — whether he plays well like he did against the Chargers, or not so well like he did against Philadelphia.

More Jacksonville Jaguars stories from our staff:

He takes notes, highlighting what he needs to work on or things they didn’t execute well.

The process doesn’t really change much.

“I do the same things when I don’t play well, like this week. Same process, I think that’s important, just to keep it the same," he said. "You can’t change what you do just because you win, or you lose, or you play well, or you don’t. I try to keep it the same.”

By the time he gets back home he puts the game to bed. And after they go over film as a team on the ensuing Monday, it’s on to the next opponent.

Lawrence admitted he didn’t have a good performance against the Eagles in his Wednesday availability. But for a second-year quarterback who experienced losing at an alarming clip last season, there wasn’t any panic from him.

He fielded questions about consistency and confidence, something the Jaguars have had at a premium during the first four games of the season. They’re sitting at .500 through the first four games but have had opportunities to win each game.

Such a stark contrast from a year ago when they lost their first five games of the season.

“That’s the beautiful thing, right? It’s the first quarter of the season, and we’ve played some really good football early,” he said. “We’ve played not so great at times, too, but there’s so much to build off of, good and bad. To your point, using all that to be more consistent. Ride the highs and withstand the lows.”

The highs from the early parts of the season? A shutout victory against the Colts and dominant victory against the Chargers.

The lows? A frustrating loss against the Commanders and a victory that slipped from their grasp against the Eagles.

Despite the four fumbles and one interception against the Eagles, there's still plenty for Lawrence to be positive about thus far.

Through four games in 2021, Lawrence had completed just 57% of his passes, with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. This year he's at 65.7% with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He's also outpacing his yardage, too (873 to 946).

As Lawrence and the Jaguars prepare to take on the winless Texans this week, they’ll be looking for more consistency, like they showed in Weeks 2 and 3.

"It’s hard to measure consistency,” Lawrence said. “It’s a general term, but we all know as players when you’re out there, when you watch the game, what that winning performance looks like. For myself, that wasn’t it on Sunday, and you just grow from it, and you learn.”
