Flying out of Tampa? Expect higher parking costs and new direct flight options

Bradenton and Manatee County residents who fly out of Tampa International Airport will soon find new flight options and higher parking rates.

TPA will soon offer non-stop flights to San Diego, California, and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The airport said in a press release that San Diego is one of its largest underserved nonstop markets.

Every day, the airport records an average of 154 passengers traveling to and from the West Coast.

Alaska Airlines will begin service to San Diego on Oct. 5, 2023, adding to their existing nonstop routes, which include Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

TPA hasn’t had direct flights to San Diego since September 2021.

Travelers will now have the option of a morning departure from San Diego and a late afternoon departure from Tampa.

“Tampa International Airport is proud to work with our airline partners to best serve travelers headed to our most popular destinations. Hundreds of passengers each day fly between TPA and San Diego, so this new nonstop route by Alaska Airlines offers a welcome daily option without requiring a connection,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said in a news release.

The second new nonstop flight option is to Aguadilla on Puerto Rico’s west coast via Frontier, which already offers nonstop flights to San Juan.

Flights on Frontier Airlines to Aguadilla will start on May 4, 2023.

Increased parking fees

The airport’s parking prices will increase on April 3.

The daily parking charge is slated to rise by $2.

The maximum daily parking prices will be:

  • $28 in the short-term garage

  • $22 in the long-term garage

  • $18 in the economy garage.

Hourly prices will stay the same: free for the first hour, $4 for the next 80 minutes, and $2 for every additional 20 minutes after that.

“TPA parking rates will always be cheaper online at park.tampaairport.com” if travelers book in advance, the airport said.

The airport cited inflation and rising labor and construction costs for the fee increase. TPA is building new parking options and improvements, which will add 500 spaces.

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport also recently announced higher parking fees to help pay for parking and airport improvements.
