FMC fall events include hiring event, cancer care run and Turkey Day 5K

Fall has arrived, and Fairfield Medical Center is gearing up for a number of events this season, starting with our Fall Hiring Event this Thursday and closing out with a fun-family tradition: The Turkey Day 5K. Whether you’re looking to join our team, improve your health and wellness or give back to patients right here in your community, we hope to see you at one or more of the following events:

Fall Hiring Event

Oct. 5, 5 to 7 p.m. at the River Valley CampusRegister at fmchealth.org/hiring-event. If you can’t make it to our Fall Hiring Event, but are still interested in a career at FMC, we are also hosting a Walk-in Wednesday Hiring Event on Nov. 1 from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at our Main Campus, 401 N. Ewing St., Lancaster. No registration is required – simply walk in and meet with one of our recruiters. Please bring your resume and be prepared for an interview.

Twig 1 Cancer Care Run

Oct. 7, 9-10:30 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.$30 a person through race day. Kids 10 and under run/walk freeRegister at bit.ly/TWIGOneWe have all been impacted by cancer in one way or another, and many of us know the impact this disease can have on a person and their family and friends. Being able to receive treatment and support close to home is important to members of our community. On Oct. 7, join us for the TWIG 1 Cancer Care Run to raise money for the FMC Foundation’s Cancer Care Fund. This fund benefits patients receiving cancer treatment at FMC by helping with nutritional supplements, diagnostic and preventative treatments and other necessary items not covered by insurance.

Step Up Against Stroke: Stroke Prevention and Group Exercise Class

Oct. 25, 5 to 7 p.m. at the River Valley CampusRegistration is required by Oct. 24. Visit fmchealth.org/healthy-habits or call 740-687-8007.Living a healthy lifestyle and controlling any medical conditions you have can significantly reduce your risk for stroke. In recognition of World Stoke Day on Oct. 29, join us for this free patient seminar. Cardiologist Dr. Michael Reinig will talk about abnormal heart rhythms and increased risk for stroke, and neurologist Dr. Wayne Gordon will explain common signs, symptoms and treatments. The event will conclude with a fun, low-impact exercise class led by certified personal trainer Susie Birdwell of Family YMCA of Lancaster & Fairfield County.

Healthy Holidays: Staying Balanced

Unfortunately, this approach can come with an increased risk of heartburn and unintended weight gain. In this free patient seminar, Heather Luttrell, RN, BSN, of the Fairfield Medical Heartburn Center, will offer tips to reduce symptoms of GERD, and FMC registered dietitian Emily Schmelzer, RD, will speak to the importance of enjoying all things in moderation.
