Fmr. Marine Trevor Reed has been released from Russia in a prisoner exchange for Russian citizen Konstantin Yaroshenko.

Former U.S. Marine Trevor Reed, who had been detained in Russia, has been released in a prisoner exchange for Russian drug trafficker Konstantin Yaroshenko.

A statement from The White House today, said that Trevor Reed was freed from the Russian detention center and that the President was delighted to be able to share the good news with Reed’s parents.

While speaking with Brianna Keilar on New day, Paula Reed and her husband Joey Reed said they got a call from President Biden who confirmed the news shared by the state department. They said they were actually talking to the former marine when the president called.

When asked about Reed’s reaction, they said that he sounded subdued and a little overwhelmed with the whole thing.

Reed was moved to a different prison in Moscow this week and then flown over to Turkey. It was the same prison where Paul Whelan, another US-Canadian citizen arrested for alleged espionage, was held for a long time.

“Trevor quickly told us that they, the American plane pulled up next to the Russian plane and they walked both prisoners across at the same time like you see in the movies,” said Reed’s father.
