A nurse of more than 11 years, Choyce Guice became the go-to person to care for her friends after their plastic surgeries.

With the rise in popularity of cosmetic procedures such as Brazilian butt lifts, an operation that redistributes fat for an enlarged buttocks without using implants, some women are frequenting surgeons’ offices to alter their physical appearance. But in her dealings with friends, Guice realized how few actually knew how to take care of their wounds during the healing process.

After helping friends change bandages, tending to their wounds and performing lymphatic drainage massages to assist with fluid buildup, she realized she could use her medical knowledge and skill set in her own day spa. In July 2021, she did just that, opening the doors of A Choyce Touch in Akron's Sherbondy Hill neighborhood, at 1557 Vernon Odom Blvd., Suite 101.

“A lot of women think they’re going to get off the table and look like Kim Kardashian,” Guice said. “That’s just not the case. There’s a lot that goes into post-op care women don’t always realize.”

One of her primary goals as a business owner is to educate local women about the risks of surgical procedures and post-operative care.

“I’ve been a nurse for a long time; I got used to taking care of people,” Guice said. “This is still nursing — just a different kind of nursing.”

Several of her friends traveled to other states or, in some cases, other countries to get Brazilian butt lifts or other plastic surgeries at a reduced cost, a practice that Guice said can be dangerous in some cases, especially since the patient is not returning for post-operative care. Her community outreach also works to educate and promote safer, local procedures and proper follow-up.

“In my opinion, the post-op care is the make or break for results,” she said. “There’s a lot that goes into taking care of your body after something like this.

Guice also offers non-surgical services, such as body contouring and teeth whitening. She plans to partner with a nurse practitioner soon to offer IV hydration services to cater to anyone suffering from dehydration.

“As nurses, we want to help people feel good,” Guice said. “That’s what my business is all about: educating and making people feel healthy and confident.”
