GREEN BAY − A slow-moving winter storm is bringing a wintry mix to central Wisconsin and rain to the Fox Valley Tuesday, with the possibility for snow later in the week, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.

The low pressure system entered the region Tuesday and is expected to move over central and northeastern Wisconsin in the coming days.

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, precipitation reports were still coming in, the NWS said. However, most major roads in central Wisconsin west of the Fox Valley were either covered in ice or had slippery stretches, according to 511wi.gov.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Advisory Monday for Marshfield, Wausau, Shawano, Park Falls, Steven Points, Wautoma, Waupaca, Redgranite, Plover, Clintonville, New London and Wisconsin Rapids.

As for the Fox Valley, Green Bay, Kewaunee, Door County, Menominee and Marinette County, the NWS issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective during the early hours of Tuesday. Those areas can expect light coverings of ice on streets and other surfaces until 9 or 10 a.m., when the wintry mix changes to rain.

For Tuesday and late Wednesday, as the storm system moves across the Great Lakes region, snow accumulations are possible in the north-central part of the state as well as upper Michigan. For the east-central and northeastern precipitation will be mainly rain on Tuesday, but could turn to snow on Wednesday, as cold air filters into the area, the forecast says.

The NWS says hazardous travel conditions are likely Tuesday with sleet and probably ice glaze on flat surfaces.

These conditions could change Thursday, as the system leaves the area, with light snow possible by the end of the week.
