One day after its baseball season ended, Texas shook up its coaching staff.

A Texas source confirmed a Monday night report by D1Baseball that the Longhorns have parted ways with assistant coach Sean Allen, who for the past three seasons has been UT's pitching coach and also has served as the program's recruiting coordinator.

Texas head coach David Pierce did not immediately respond to a message from the American-Statesman.

Allen has been at Texas since the 2017 season. He previously worked with Pierce at Sam Houston State and Tulane. In total, Allen and fellow assistant coach Philip Miller have been with Pierce for the past 11 seasons. Allen had long been the coach to take over for Pierce after game ejections.

When Allen arrived at Texas, he was the Longhorns' hitting coach. Following the 2019 season and former MLB all-star Troy Tulowitzki's acceptance of a volunteer coaching position, Allen shifted his focus to mentoring the pitchers.

During the 2021 season, Allen was named D1Baseball's assistant coach of the year when he oversaw a pitching staff that had an ERA of 2.93. He also had pitchers selected with a first-round pick in 2021 (Ty Madden) and a fifth-round pick in 2020 (Bryce Elder).

However, Texas could not replicate that success on the mound this past season. Hampered by an injury to weekend starter Tanner Witt and the regression of other arms, Texas posted only a 4.22 ERA. That ERA still led the Big 12, but it was No. 26 nationally.

With Allen on its staff, Texas reached the College World Series three times. The Longhorns lost both of their games in Omaha this year, and UT's season ended with a 10-2 loss to Texas A&M on Sunday.
