WORCESTER — Less than two months after One Eyed Jack's Tiki Bar & Grill at 433 Park Ave. was required to close at the start of the year due to a lack of sprinklers, the bar ownership will open at a new location under a new name Thursday.

In a Facebook post Sunday, the bar ownership announced the opening of Jack's Tiki Tavern at 3 Mill St. this week. The location was previously home to Scal's Sports Bar.

According to the post, the new bar will consist of cocktails with garnishes, local craft beers and seltzers.

Unlike One Eyed Jack's, the new location does not have a kitchen to serve food, but the ownership wrote in the post that catered food will be available some nights.

One Eyed Jack's' has been closed since New Year's Eve.

In January, owner David Thacker said the business went through all of the necessary inspections and received approval for the license, but he then received a call and texts from building and fire inspectors informing him that the license would not be renewed for 2023 until the landlord installs a sprinkler system or brings the building up to code.

One Eyed Jack's has passed the inspections in the prior years since its 2020 opening, Thacker said. He said that inspectors informed him that there were new laws on the books that changed the guidelines for receiving the license.

The city fire department told the Telegram & Gazette that the business has been in violation of a court order since September that specifically regards public safety and added the department and inspectors had attempted to resolve the issue.

Thacker has insisted that the owner of the Park Avenue building had the obligation of installing a sprinkler system and that his business was caught in the middle of a problem between the city and the property owner.

According to the city's assessors database, the building at 433 Park Ave. is owned by ValueFirst Realty LLC.
