Folsom businesses welcome street closure to boost foot traffic

Businesses in historic Folsom are welcoming the closure of one of the area’s main roads. Sutter Street was closed off to traffic to help expand foot traffic for shops and eateries. The street closure has been happening for a few weeks now. Visitors could also find corn hole games, snow cones and listen to live music. Some business owners say they’re seeing more foot traffic when the street is closed. They also say people seem to be enjoying themselves. “People come out and they eat dinner, have drinks. It’s very family-oriented, it’s so different than before. Before we’d have traffic all the time. There’s less pollution. People seem to be happier. Getting a lot of people telling me how much better they like it, ” said Emily Schell, owner of Emily’s Corner. She says she’s also noticed more bicyclists stopping by now that the street is closed.
