Folsom City Works Day hosts police vehicles, fire engines and more for residents to see

Folsom’s annual City Works Day will wheel out police vehicles, fire engines, garbage trucks and tractors for residents next week.

The free event is put on by the city in conjunction with the American Public Works Association’s National Public Works Week. The event runs Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to noon at City Lions Park on Stafford Street. It will advertise programs, amenities and services, according Christine Brainerd, a city spokeswoman.

“Folsom City Works Day offers a unique opportunity for residents to connect with their community and learn more about our efforts to maintain and improve the city,” Brainerd said.

Brainerd said the city aims to provide residents with an inside look at city operations, including the maintenance of roads, bridges and parks. The event will feature live demonstrations of equipment.

City officials will also be in attendance, according to Brainerd. They are available for questions and feedback.

City Works Day in the past has seen a plethora of students on field trips.

Wednesday’s event will see over 600 students from classes in Carl Sundahl Elementary School, Empire Oaks Elementary School, Cadence Academy Preschool and the Fun Factory Preschool, while the entirety of Theodore Judah Elementary is slated to attend.

“Visitors of all ages can experience the city’s work vehicles for viewing, exploring and even honking,” Brainerd said in a news release.
