Folsom Public Library offers summer reading competition, programs for children and adults

The Folsom Public Library is offering multiple programs for children and adults this summer.

The library, located on Stafford Street near the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, kicked off its 2023 Summer Reading challenge on May 26, according to the city’s website. Participants of all ages can sign up to read or listen to five books during June and July.

Once the five-book challenge is completed, children win a free book, a book bag and entry into drawing for a $100 gift card, while adults earn the same minus the free book.

Participants can pick up the challenge’s bingo-style game card at the library or use the Beanstack Tracker app that tracks timed reading sessions and books completed.

Other programs the library offers include:

  • Storytimes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and Thursdays through Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. These are geared toward children 6 and under and hosted in the Children’s Picture Book Room.

  • Summer dance parties on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. for children ages 2 to 6

  • A Kids’ “crafter-noon” in the Library Meeting Room on Fridays from 3 p.m. 4 p.m.

  • LEGO at the Library on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 5 to 12. Kids can put their finished products on display in the library.

  • The Graphic Novel Book Club meets in the Library’s Children’s Area on the third Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. They will discuss “Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea” on Saturday, June 17, and “The Last Comics on Earth” on Saturday, July 15. This program is oriented toward kids ages 7 to 12.

  • A story time and meet and greet on Friday, June 23, and Saturday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m.

  • A Pokemon Party on Thursday, July 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. A card trading session will also be available for children during this period.
