Foo Fighters, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, will return to North Carolina for their first shows in over a decade.

The Dave Grohl-fronted group will perform at Coastal Credit Union Music Park in Raleigh on May 7, and at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte on May 9. Tickets for both dates will go on sale at 10 a.m. this Thursday at www.livenation.com.

Foo Fighters’ last appearance on a Charlotte stage was in 2012 during the Democratic National Convention, for which they rocked through a 35-song marathon set at The Fillmore. That was followed the next night by performances of “My Hero” and “Walk” at what was then called Time Warner Cable Arena (now Spectrum Center).

A May 2020 show at PNC Music Pavilion was canceled due to COVID and never got rescheduled.

Their last traditional concert in Charlotte was in 2011, when they brought the “Wasting Light” tour to the uptown arena.

It’s been even longer since the Foo Fighters visited Raleigh. Their last show was in June 2000 at was then Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek.

Next May’s concerts will mark the first two in North Carolina for the band since the March 2022 death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. The Foo Fighters were scheduled to bring their show to Raleigh in May 2022, but the tour was canceled after Hawkins’ death.

Josh Freese is Hawkins’s replacement with the band — which also features bassist Nate Mendel, guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett, and keyboardist Rami Jaffee. .

The opening act for the NC shows will be Nova Twins.

Prior to Thursday’s general on-sale window opening up, Citi card members will have access to pre-sale tickets from 1 p.m. Tuesday until 10 p.m. Wednesday. Details: www.citientertainment.com.
