This Food Hall Opening in NYC Comes With an Epic James Beard Foundation–curated Lineup of Restaurants
Market 57, a new food-centric destination, is coming to Manhattan's Hudson River Park this spring.
Pier 57, a cultural destination located along the waterfront in New York City’s Hudson River Park, is set to welcome a new dining destination this spring: Market 57. The much-anticipated vendor lineup, curated by the James Beard Foundation, was just unveiled, and it sure is a tasty slate of diverse offerings.
“New York City is filled with a rich array of cultures, traditions, and culinary influences, and the vendors at Market 57 reflect that diversity. We’re excited to bring delicious food to the city’s West Side, while showcasing and supporting incredible talent aligned to our Good Food for Good mission,” Clare Reichenbach, CEO of the James Beard Foundation, said in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure.
In total, there will be 15 vendors showcasing their goods at Market 57, all curated with input from the James Beard Foundation, which put a particular emphasis on recruiting women- and BIPOC-owned dining outlets. (A spokesperson told Eater the committee behind the famed James Beard Awards has no involvement in selecting spots for the market, adding that “the Foundation is a brand partner of the food hall but not a partner of any of the business arrangements between Pier 57 and each individual vendor.”)
"The diverse roster of food entrepreneurs brought to Pier 57 by the James Beard Foundation will surely be welcomed by park visitors who’ll be able to grab a bite while enjoying everything Hudson River Park has to offer, including Pier 57 itself," said Noreen Doyle, the president and CEO of the Hudson River Park Trust. "The transformation of this historic pier into a world-class public space with an emphasis on sustainability is a win for park users, New Yorkers, and the city as a whole."
Hungry visitors can dig into restaurateur Jimmy Rizvi’s Ammi, featuring homestyle Indian dishes from Rizvi's mother's family. It will sit alongside spots like Bessou on the Pier by restaurateur Maiko Kyogoku and chef Elena Yamamoto, a modern Japanese food spot filled with items like Yamamoto’s signature Japanese-style karaage fried chicken and crispy sushi rice.
There’s also Bird & Branch by Faith and Brandon Lee, offering visitors specialty coffees; Due Madri by Butcher Girls founders Erika Nakamura and Jocelyn Guest, an ideal stop for anyone shopping for meats; and Local Roots by Wen-Jay Ying, an elevated Chinese farm-to-table food destination that uses only sustainably grown ingredients. Others on the list include LoLo’s on the Water, Malai, Mothershuckers, Nom Wah, Harlem Hops, Lobster Place, The Good Batch, Ras Plant Based, Zaab Zaab, and Mijo.
In addition to dining vendors, Market 57 will be home to two James Beard Foundation concepts: Platform by JBF and Good To Go by JBF. The former is both a showcase kitchen and an educational space that will host chefs-in-residence for culinary experiences. The latter is a kiosk featuring fast-casual bites from emerging talent.
