Food Lion remodels six stores in Charlotte area with a new look, expanded food options

Food Lion has updated several Charlotte-area stores with a new look and expanded product offerings.

The Salisbury-based grocery chain is celebrating finishing the remodeling of 20 stores in the Carolinas, including six in the Charlotte market, through Saturday. Food Lion declined to disclose the investment cost.

Food Lion made “significant enhancements in these stores,” Food Lion President Meg Ham said in a statement.

The stores were formerly Bi-Lo supermarkets that Food Lion purchased in 2021. Each store remained open during the remodel.

“We did a quick remodel to convert them to Food Lion at the time,” Food Lion said in a statement to The Charlotte Observer. “We routinely refresh and remodel our stores.”

Grocery store competition

Another North Carolina grocer chain recently underwent a full rebrand. Last month, Matthews-based Harris Teeter unveiled a new logo and tagline.

The competition is fierce in the Charlotte market, with 722 stores and expansions planned by Sprouts Farmers Market, Publix, Lidl and Lowes Foods.

Food Lion opened two Charlotte stores last year at 5939 Weddington Road and at 2201 West W. T. Harris Blvd., both in a former Harris Teeters.
