Food Made Fresh: Muesli is a simple way to help meet nutritional needs

Muesli is a whole grain cereal created around 1900 by a Swiss doctor to meet his patient’s nutritional needs. Like granola, muesli consists of whole grains, nuts, fruit, and seeds. However, muesli is not baked the way granola is.

Granola typically contains sugar or syrup, and oil of some type to hold it together when baked. When cutting out sugars and fats from our diets, raw muesli is a terrific option.

The muesli formula is simple to follow, select a whole grain such as rolled oats. Then add seeds, like chia or flax. Next, add nuts such as walnuts or almonds. You can add dried or fresh fruits, or a combination of both.
