Food product sold only at Costco recalled in 13 states because plastic might be in the food

The latest not-food-in-your-food recall involves plastic, clam chowder and Costco stores in 13 states.

Ivar’s Soup and Sauce Company recalled 14,968 double packs of 24-ounce cups containing its Kettle Classic Clam Chowder with Uncured Bacon. The company-written, FDA-posted recall notice says a customer called Ivar’s after finding plastic in a container.

”The piece of plastic found by the consumer is in the shape of a half circle with some of the center missing, with edges that are sharp and pointed,” the notice added. “The diameter of the circle is approximately 1 1/2 inches.”

“It is possible that the remainder of the circular plastic is a similarly intact piece or numerous smaller pieces.”

This is Costco item No. 1270666 with a use by date of 12-22-2021 on the sleeve of the two-pack and on each 24-ounce cup. The two-packs went to stores in Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Costco customers with this clam chowder should toss it or return it to the store for a full refund. Those with questions can call Ivar’s at 425-493-1402, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time.
