Swansea pizzeria closes shop

Pizza lovers in Swansea were met with some sad news this week. After over a decade in business, One Horse Pizzeria and Saloon announced via its Facebook page that it would be closing its doors as of June 18. The town staple at 1635 G.A.R Highway (Route 6) was known for its specialty pies with unexpected, inventive combinations, such as its popular Thanksgiving Pizza, as well as Taco Pizza, Breakfast Pizza and the Texas Rodeo with barbecue sauce, topped with chicken, bacon and onion rings. Their Sunday post read: "We regretfully announce that effective today we have officially closed for business. We thank the people of Swansea and our neighboring towns for their business and support over the years."

Faneek's to accept SNAP benefits

Faneek's Coney Island is branching out in different ways. The Fall River hot dog joint was among 27 restaurants and food trucks recently selected to participate in Massachusetts SNAP Restaurant Meals Program pilot. It will allow folks with disabilities, households with adults age 60 and older, and those experiencing homelessness or food insecurity to use their SNAP benefits at Faneek's and other participating restaurants that offer reduced-price meal options. “These selected restaurants and food trucks are diverse and strong focal points in their communities, dedicated to providing their neighbors with access to delicious and healthy food that is also nourishing and familiar to people from around the world. This approach to the SNAP Restaurant Meals Program pilot centers on serving low-income individuals and families to help address nutrition, health, and economic inequities,” said Secretary of Health and Human Services Kate Walsh. According to the Healey-Driscoll Administration, the RMP should be available at the participating restaurants by the fall. Faneek's is located at 269 Rhode Island Ave.
