Food truck fundraiser planned for couple who died in fiery crash on I-75 in Sarasota
A Food Truck Rally is being held at Big Top Brewing Company on Sunday to raise money for family of the couple who died in a food truck that crashed and was engulfed in flames earlier this week.
The couple was headed south on Interstate 76 just north of Fruitville Road, Exit 210, near the border of Manatee and Sarasota counties, when the Chevrolet truck had a catastrophic tire failure, rolled over several times and caught fire.
Some witnesses rush to the truck to try and save the couple, but were unable to get them out. The couple died trapped inside the engulfed truck.
Now a group of local food truck owners in joining forces to raise money for the family. The couple — identified as Alondra Lopez and Carlos Mendoza — left two children behind, according to the Facebook event and other social and online post by family and friends.
From noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, there will be a Food Truck Rally at Big Top Brewing Company, 975 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota. A percentage of the proceeds and all donations raised will go to the family.
Food truck scheduled to be there include: Smokin Momma Lora BBQ Mobile, Killiks Kitchen, Florida Poutine, Dee’z Diner, Fat n Happy BBQ, Simply Greek and Purple Bōl.
Big Top Brewing Company will also be selling wrist bands for $10 at the rally. The bands will get people $1 off draft beers and all proceeds will also go to the family.
