Food truck owner preps for Eat Black Charlotte Week

Eat Black Charlotte Week, a celebration of Charlotte-area Black-owned restaurants, starts Friday and runs through June 11.

Felicia Reese, owner and chef at 22 Street Kitchen food truck, is excited to be part of the event.

“It kind of gives us a way to get in front of the community,” she said.

Reese initially launched her food truck business as a side hustle.

“When Covid hit I went on a furlough from my job and ended up having to do this full-time,” she explained.

Now Reese is three years in, and you can find her food truck set up from Charlotte to Huntersville serving a mix of her favorites such as burritos and tacos with a creole twist.

“The love that we give to our food is visible to our customers,” she said.

Beyond Eat Black Charlotte Week, Reese would like to see more recognition and better access to resources for small, Black-owned businesses.

“Sometimes, you don’t see a lot of Black-owned businesses expanding, you know they may have one location, but you’re not aware of those that have three or four locations,” she said.

The weeklong promotion includes a food and culture festival on June 10 in Uptown.
