Food trucks, fun and supporting good causes lined up at Mulligan's Island

Looking for a food truck experience? There's a new weekly event in Cranston that offers a variety of food choices, a wine and beer garden and family activities.

Last week was the season's first of Ocean State Food Truck Festival's weekly events at Mulligan's Island Golf & Entertainment at 1000 New London Ave. It will be held each Friday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., sponsored by an association of the mobile food businesses.

Jeff Burgoyne, co-owner of Ming's Asian Street Food Truck, touts the easy parking, live music and the nonprofit component.

Each week they will highlight a nonprofit. It could be the Rescue Lounge or Shelter to Sofa, and there will be adoptable dogs to meet. Or it might be Operation Made which helps veterans build their own small businesses or Smiling Angels, a fundraising association helping those with immediate needs.

There are kid-friendly attractions each week, including bouncy houses and menus for children. It's also pet friendly there at Mulligan's, he said.

Participating trucks include Mings, Atomic Blonde Ice Cream, Farm to Sandwich, Little B's BBQ, Gorditos Snocones, Casa Tia Rosa, JA Patty, Memphis Kelle Spirits Over RI, Chicked Out Nuggz, Food Vibes RI, Haven Brothers Mobile, The Hot Potato R.I., West Shore Coffee Coffee Bar, Lulu's Little Pancakes, Newport Chowder Company, RaRa's Surf Shack, Macs Screaming Corn and Tacos and MacDaddy Trailer.
