Food with a view: Check out the menu from Eddy's restaurant at Montgomery Whitewater

You can definitely work up an appetite riding the river channels at Montgomery Whitewater. Or maybe you're just downtown and hungry.

Either way, welcome to Eddy's Restaurant and Bar — the full-service eatery on site next to the outfitters store. Park planners have said it will be one of the largest restaurants in the area when it officially opens to the public next month.

They'll serve lunch 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and dinner 5 to 9 p.m., as well as drinks with a unique view just minutes from downtown at 1100 Maxwell Blvd. The indoor restaurant and outdoor dining and bar areas overlook the rapids. Folks there say it's got the best sunset view in Montgomery.

It's also got the best health rating possible. According to the Montgomery County Health Department, they scored 100.

Eddy's offers variety, from fast-casual to upscale options. Their all-day menu includes a variety of appetizers and hearty gourmet entrees like burgers, pulled pork sliders and fish tacos. The Mediterranean, Asian or Southwestern bowls keep things light but satisfying for the health conscious. The evening brings a fine dining menu, with daily features.

Chef staff and pricing have not been made available yet by Montgomery Whitewater.

If you're 21 or older, they've got craft beer, wine and cocktails. Yes, they'll have happy hour drink specials.

Eddy's expects people to get drenched during a day of rafting. Restaurant guests are asked to towel dry off before coming in. However, all of the seating was designed with wet clothes in mind.

Eddy's also does catering for races, events, corporate meetings and other special functions. It's the exclusive caterer for rental events at Montgomery Whitewater.

For the next few weeks they're training employees during a soft opening with a limited, fixed menu, but that will soon change. After the park's grand opening, the restaurant will operate seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. any time Montgomery Whitewater is open to the public.

Eddy's menu (subject to change)

Appetizers

  • Crispy Fried Calamari: Tender rings lightly dusted in seasoned flour, deep fried until golden brown, served with zesty marinara.

  • Smoked Chicken Wings served with choice of dipping sauce (Eddy’s Sauce, Spicy Asian, Buffalo).

  • Fried Zucchini Sticks: Breaded and fried zucchini served with a zesty marinara dipping sauce.

  • Spinach Artichoke Dip: Creamy spinach and artichoke dip served hot with crispy pita chips.

  • Crab Cakes: Pan fried crab cakes made with fresh lump crabmeat and served with a delectable remoulade sauce.

  • Fried pickles: Tangy dill pickle chips breaded and fried until crispy and golden served with a side of creamy ranch dressing or our famous Eddy’s Sauce.

  • Charcuterie service: Pick 6 (Feeds 10). Add items for an additional charge: gherkins, mixed berries, Spanish olives, mixed nuts, Kalamata olives, capicola, smoked gouda, hard salami, assorted crackers, summer sausage, crostini, seasonal vegetable crudité, brie cheese, cheddar cheese, red and white grapes

  • Spicy Korean Cauliflower: Crispy fried cauliflower on a bed of vegetable fried rice served with Eddy’s spicy Asian sauce for dipping.

Daily menu

  • Eddy’s Classic Cheeseburger: 100% beef patty topped with melted cheddar cheese, gruyere arugula, tomatoes, and fried egg, apple wood bacon, and Eddy’s sauce on a toasted brioche bun served with parmesan truffle fries.

  • Grilled Chicken sandwich: Grilled chicken breast on ciabatta topped with melted Swiss, arugula, tomatoes, and garlic avocado spread. Served with house fried kettle cooked chips or fries.

  • Eddy’s Veggie: House made Veggie patty made with black beans, mushrooms and quinoa. Topped with Lettuce, Tomato and Eddy’s sauce. Served with Sweet potato fries.

  • BBQ pulled pork sliders: Fork tender, slow-cooked pork smothered in Eddy’s sauce on a mini brioche topped with house made coleslaw. Served with your choice of house fried kettle cooked chips or fries.

  • Crispy Golden Chicken Tenders: Tenders strips of chicken tender loin seasoned, breaded, and fried until golden brown and served with Alabama white BBQ sauce and fries.

  • Fish Tacos: Battered fish, coleslaw, Pico de Gallo, and spicy aioli in soft flour tortilla. Served with black beans, cilantro lime rice and house fried tortilla chips on the side.

  • Margherita flat bread pizza: Flat bread pizza topped with fresh mozzarella, savory tomato sauce, basil, fresh tomatoes and olive oil.

Bowls

  • Mediterranean Bowl: Quinoa, Mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, Kalamata olives, feta cheese and roasted spiced chickpeas. Topped with a Greek yogurt and dill dressing. Add chicken for an additional charge.

  • Asian Bowl: vegetable fried rice, shredded carrots, edamame, avocado, roasted sweet potatoes and chow Mein noodles. Topped with Teriyaki chicken or Teriyaki tofu, toasted sesame seeds. Served with Sesame Ginger Dressing.

  • Southwestern Bowl: Grilled steak, Cilantro Lime rice, black beans, fire roasted corn, freshly made Pico de Gallo, avocado and sour cream served over a bed of lettuce served with Cilantro Lime Dressing.

  • Panko encrusted Salmon with a creamy Lemon Dill Butter Sauce

  • Saffron Rice Pirlo with sweet peas and herbs

  • Pan seared Brussels sprouts with balsamic glaze.

  • Grilled Chicken Breast Quarter with white wine sauce, loaded baked or loaded sweet potatoes, sauteed haricot vert

  • NY Strip with garlic compound butter, whipped potatoes, grilled asparagus

So just who is Eddy?

If you search, you might find someone named Eddy or Eddie hanging around at Montgomery Whitewater, but that's not who the restaurant is named after.

In fact, there is no "who," but a wonderous, watery "what."

An eddy is a circular current of water — aka a whirlpool. They come in all sizes in all bodies of water. Paddlers in rafts and kayaks even make them while rowing through the water.
