FOOTBALL: Beavers vault up to No. 4 in final Super Region Four rankings
Nov. 7—BEMIDJI — The Bemidji State football team has made a giant leap.
The Beavers moved up three spots from last week and were ranked No. 4 in Super Region Four with the final release of the regional rankings on Monday.
Should that ranking hold by Sunday's selection show, BSU would host a first-round NCAA Tournament game for the first time in program history.
Bemidji State leapfrogged a trio of teams to their latest spot, supplanting Winona State, Sioux Falls and Wayne State.
Angelo State and Colorado School of Mines again pulled down the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, respectively, while Minnesota State moved up a spot to No. 3.
After the Beavers came No. 5 Winona State, No. 6 Wayne State, No. 7 Sioux Falls, No. 8 Colorado State Pueblo, No. 9 Minnesota Duluth and No. 10 Augustana.
Winona State's tumble is perhaps the surprise of the bunch, as the Warriors dropped two spots despite a 45-7 win over Upper Iowa.
BSU has one game left on the regular-season schedule — a road matchup with U-Mary at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Bismarck, N.D.
Bemidji State would certainly secure its postseason placement with a win over the Marauders — as well as the NSIC North Division championship and a share of the NSIC overall championship.
The Beavers are 2-2 this season against this week's regionally ranked teams, losing to
Minnesota State
and
Augustana
but defeating
Winona State
and
Minnesota Duluth.
BSU most recently
topped Northern State 24-14
on Saturday, Nov. 5, for its eighth straight win.
The top seven teams will earn berths to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA selection show is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, online at www.ncaa.com.
