Football: Big second half carries Aberdeen Central to win

HURON — Aberdeen Central took over in the second half to record a 24-7 Eastern South Dakota Conference football victory on Friday night.

The Golden Eagles (2-3, 2-1) led only 7-0 at halftime before controlling the football throughout most of the second half.

Karson Carda ran the football 21 times for 139 yards and scored on TD runs of 1 and 7 yards in the fourth quarter. Dustin Hermansen connected with Drew Salfrank on a 17-yard TD pass and Tayden Brownson kicked a 26-yard field goal.

Hermansen completed nine of 16 passes for 149 yards, hooking up with Salfrank four times for 101 yards.

Huron (1-4, 0-3) scored on a 5-yard run by Mason Davis, who passed for 99 yards. Cashton Caudell added 66 yards rushing and Reilyn Zavesky caught three passes for 48.

Aberdeen Central visits Watertown on Friday.

Herreid-Selby Area 46, Sully Buttes 6: Brenden Begeman ran 19 times for 224 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the top-ranked Class 9B Wolverines (6-0) to the win over third-rated Sully Buttes (4-1). He scored on runs of 1, 53 and 63 yards and also caught a 32-yard TD pass from Tray Hettick.

Hettick threw for 155 yards and teamed with Trevor Gill three times for 109 yards and two more TDs (12 and 11 yards). Nathan Bradford made 10 tackles and Kaden Sayler, Collin Tisdall and Begeman eight each.

Thomas Farries hauled in a 7-yard TD pass from Landon Hepkner for Sully Buttes.

Hitchcock-Tulare 76, Sunshine Bible Academy 22: Second-rated Hitchcock-Tulare improved to 5-0 with the victory over Sunshine Bible Academy (0-5).

Warner 45, Faulkton Area 32: Three rushing touchdowns from Charlie Dulany (6, 10 and 8 yards) and two each from Hunter Cramer (5 and 53) and Zach Wood (5 and 3) powered second-rated Class 9A Warner to the win in the Lake Region Conference Classic at Dacotah Bank Field in Aberdeen. Cramer rushed for 179 yards and Dulany 125 for the Monarchs (5-0), who got 10 tackles from Austin Schuchardt.

Layne Cotton scored on a 1-yafd plunge and tossed two TD passes for Faulkton Area (3-3). Roman DiMaria hauled in a 7-yard scoring pass and also returned a punt 76 yards for another score. Daniel Stoll caught an 81-yard scoring strike from Cotton. Cotton passed for 168 yards and also recorded 13 tackles. DiMaria caught five passes for 40 yards and Garrett Cramer rushed for 56.

Northwestern 36, Langford Area 14: Dallas Stoltenberg passed for 140 yards and four touchdowns to carry Northwestern (1-5) to victory in the LRC Classic Dacotah Bank Field. He teamed with Cordell Vitense on TD passes of 30 and 64 yards and also connected with Chase Neiber (11 yards) and Jude Ortmeier (8 yards). Ortmeier, who rushed for 179 yards, added a 4-yard TD run.

Kalen Godel scored on an 11-yard run and also tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Jesse Keough for Langford Area (0-6). Keough finished with 94 yards rushing and 104 passing. Godel hauled in five passes for 94 yards.

Groton Area 28, Sisseton 0: Groton Area evened its record at 3-3 with the Northeast Conference win over Sisseton (1-5).

Lane Tietz connected with Andrew Marzahn (6 yards) and Teylor Diegel (50 yards) on scoring passes. The Tigers also scored a 30-yard interception return from Colby Dunker and an 11-yard run from Diegel. Diegel ran for 112 yards and had three receptions for 73 yards. Tietz passed for 131 yards. Holden Sippel and Dunker each recorded 12 tackles.

Jason Fisher rushed for 22 yards and caught two passes for 30 yards for Sisseton. Hunter Biel notched 11 tackles and Taylor Snaza nine.

Deuel 55, Dakota Hills 0: Seven players scored touchdowns and Brandon Fieber broke a school record with seven extra-point kicks to lead Deuel (5-1). Carver Nothem scored on runs of 27 and 16 yards and Troy Maaland (28 yards), Dominic Constant (5) and Owen Haas (50) added TD runs. Brayden Simon hauled in a 12-yard TD pass from Maaland, Owen Quail returned a kickoff 72 yards and Gavin Benck added a 30-yard fumble return for another score. Nothem rushed for 79 yards and Haas 72. Tate Kenyon made six tackles and Cafrson Marko five with a sack.

Dylan Rumpza completed an 18-yard pass to Ben Kasuske for the Grizzlies (0-6).

Clark-Willow Lake 31, Mobridge-Pollock 22: Trey Huber passed for 129 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 47 yards and another score for the Cyclones (3-3). Tyson Huber caught four passes for 89 yards and two TDs and Kaplan Felberg three for 32 and a TD. Griffin Musser added 71 yards rushing and a score.

Elliot Bratland (eight solo tackles, nine assists) and Mitchell Larson (three solos, six assists) joined Cole Brenden with interceptions.

Redfield 26, Webster Area 0: The Pheasants (3-2) took the Northeast Conference game by scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter and one each in the final two quarters.

Brent Bearman rushed for 31 yards, caught three passes for 10 yards and also made 11 solo tackles and two assists for Webster Area (1-5). Matthew Mount contributed six solo tackles and two assists.

Britton-Hecla 43, Arlington 12: BoDell Davidson ran for 181 yards and three TDs (8, 63 and 41 yards) and also connected on an 11-yard TD pass to Bryce Hawkins for the 3-2 Braves. Tucker Mertens added 72 yards rushing an da 2-yard TD run and Jaxon Zuehlke fired a 35-yard scoring pass from Peyton Pearson. Davidson made seven tackles and Collin Beaner and Isaiah Jackson each 5.5.

Arlington (0-5) scored on a 50-yard pass from Jake Burns to Blake Madsen and on a 6-yard run by Leilan Farstad. Caden Murphy ran for 48 yards and Jett Spilde 36. Murphy also had 7.5 tackles and Tommy Bacon 6.5.

Winnebago, Neb. 60, Tiospa Zina 6: Winnebago rolled to the victory in the matchup of 3-1 All-Nations Conference teams.

Saturday's Games

Ipswich 50, Leola-Frederick Area 30: Tyler Hettich ran for 160 yards and four touchdowns (12, 7, 4 and 63 yards) and also recorded nine tackles with an interception to lead Ipswich (4-2) to the win in the LRC Classic at Dacotah Bank Field. Ian Beyer threw for 145 yards and teamed with Trevor Heinz on scoring plays of 48 and 32 yards. Carter Geditz added a 1-yard TD plunge.

Hans Lapka (1 and 7 yards), Brayden Sumption (5) and Levi Little (10) each had scoring runs for LFA, which slipped to 2-3. Sumption ran for 96 yards and completed seven of 11 passes for 81 yards, teaming with Samuel Vetter five times for 50 yards. Levi Little tallied seven tackles, Connor Spitzer six and Sumption five.

Great Plains Lutheran 41, North Central 8: Brody Scharlemann tossed four touchdown passes, two each to Jacob Bartels (20 and 43 yards) and Myles York (17 and 14 yards) to lead the Panthers to victory in the LRC Classic at Dacotah Bank Field in Aberdeen. Micah Holien and Thomas Erickson added scoring runs of 6 and 33 yards, respectively, for GPL (3-2). Scharlemann passed for 104 yards and Holien ran for 90. York had eight tackles and two fumble recoveries, RJ Perry seven tackles and a blocked punt, Levi Holloway seven tackles and Holien five tackles and an interception.

Spencer Buechler scored on an 8-yard run for North Central (1-4).
