Football: Chaminade-Madonna WRs vs. American Heritage's DBs headline Week 4 matchups
Another week, another big challenge for Chaminade-Madonna.
The Lions (No. 1 Class 1M) opened the season with wins against a trio of nationally ranked opponents and have passed those tests with flying colors. Three wins. A loaded offense averaging 42 points per game.
Chaminade has another elite opponent Friday when it hosts Plantation-American Heritage (No. 2 Class 2M).
The game will showcase elite recruits on the field at all times.
Chaminade has one of the best junior classes in the nation with wide receivers Jeremiah Smith (238 yards, four touchdowns), Joshisa Trader (294 yards, three touchdowns), running back Davion Gause (193 yards, six touchdowns) and quarterback Cedrick Bailey (890 yards, nine touchdowns).
American Heritage has a pair of Ohio State commits in wide receiver Brandon Inniss (310 yards, five touchdowns) and running back Mark Fletcher Jr. (506 yards, four touchdowns). They also have impact underclassmen such as sophomore running back Byron Louis (213 yards, three touchdowns) and freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney (209 yards, four touchdowns).

Here's a look at some of the other top games to watch in Week 4.
Osceola (1-1, No. 4 Class 4S) at Lakeland (2-0, No. 1 Class 4S)
This is a potential state championship game preview. Osceola beat Treasure Coast in the season opener and then lost in overtime to Seminole (the No. 1 team in Class 4M) two weeks ago. Standout running back Taevion Swint has scored all six of the team’s touchdowns this fall. Lakeland is facing its first big test of the fall after a pair of dominant wins to open the fall. The Dreadnaughts have outscored opponents 81-12 this season.

Edgewater (3-0, No. 3 Class 3M) at Jones (1-1, No. 7 Class 3M)
The District 3-3M opener also happens to be one the biggest games of the year in Central Florida and the winner will most definitely be in the driver’s seat to take the district championship. Edgewater used a big fourth quarter to beat state-ranked West Orange last week. Jones beat Cocoa on the road in the season opener before falling at Duncanville (Texas) two weeks ago.
Bartram Trail (3-0, No. 5 Class 4S) at Lincoln (3-0, No. 6 Class 3S)
Bartram Trail already has road wins against Seabreeze and Mainland and now heads back on the road to take on Lincoln in Tallahassee. The Bears have allowed a touchdown or less in two of their three games. Lincoln’s numbers have been astounding this season: 182 points scored (60.67 points per game) and allowed just six. But this is certainly their toughest opponent to date. Lincoln rallied to beat Bartram Trail on the road 37-31 last season.

Bolles (2-1, No. 5 Class 2M) vs. Trinity Christian (3-0, No. 2 Class 1M)
A matchup for Jacksonville bragging rights, which Bolles won 35-0 last season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 20-3 loss at Brunswick (Ga.) in the Border Classic. Bolles averaged more than 30 points per games in the first two weeks in wins against St. Augustine and Mandarin. Trinity Christian has scored at least 40 points in every game this season. Running backs Treyaun Webb and Darnell Rogers have combined for 614 yards and 11 touchdowns this fall.
Here are some of the top individual recruiting matchups to watch in Week 4.
Edgewater 2023 RB Cedric Baxter Jr. vs. Jones 2023 LB Malik Bryant
Two of the state’s premier senior recruits face off in the District 3-3M opener. Baxter (No. 6 USA Today Florida Network top 100, Texas commit) is averaging more than 200 yards per game this season. Bryant (No. 20 top 100, Miami commit) is making the transition from edge rusher to linebacker and has lined up in various spots early this fall.
Chaminade-Madonna WRs vs. American Heritage DBs
Is this a copout to put entire position groups instead of one individual? Maybe. But consider the elite talent at these positions. Chaminade’s wide receivers include Smith (offers include Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, USC), Trader (Alabama, Miami, Ohio State offers) and senior Edwin Joseph (Miami, Penn State, Utah offers). American Heritage’s loaded secondary includes cornerback Damari Brown (Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Miami offers), safety Daemon Fagan (N.C.
