SATURDAY’S RESULTS

Plainfield 42, North Bergen 0: Yasir Wyatt rushed for 155 yards on 11 carries and scored three rushing touchdowns, and quarterback Ala-Meen Watkins threw a TD pass and ran in another on a 26-yard keeper and Plainfield cracked the win column. Joel Cordoba grabbed a 22-yard scoring pass in the win, while Samir Cherry, wbho finished with 123 rushing yards, ripped off a 48-yard touchdown run for the Cardinals (1-4). Armando Avril went 5-for-6 kicking extra points, while Watkins added a 2-point conversion run.

Somerville 27, Elizabeth 7: Terrell Mitchell ripped off two rushing touchdowns and the Somerville defense held Elizabeth to just one score as the Pioneers snapped a three-game losing streak with a big road victory. Dylan Knapp, who is filling in at quarterback for the ailing Mike Miller, opened things up with a 20-yard TD pass to Wes Hack in the second quarter to get the Ville going, before Elizabeth (2-3) found the equalizer on Vito Tropeano’s 42-yard scoring pass to Michael Sagues, and the teams were tied 7-7 at halftime. But Mitchell found paydirt twice in the third period to go up 20-7, before Hashym Hobbs-Harris capped it on the five-yard run in the final period, sending Somerville to 2-4.

Pope John 48, Immaculata 7: Cameron Chadwick caught five passes for 86 yards and a touchdown from quarterback Mason Geis, but it wasn’t enough, as Immaculata fell to 2-3. Chadwick also paced the Spartans in rushing, going for 57 yards on seven carries.

Roselle Park 26, Spotswood 22: Trey Lazar ran 23 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns, adding 143 passing yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to keep Spotswood from falling to 4-2. Brandon Bandoy collected three catches for 97 yards for the Chargers, including an 80-yard scoring strike from Lazar. John Lubin added a 22-yard field goal for Spotswood. Roselle Park is 2-3.

Long Island Lutheran (NY) 28, Pingry 20: Jason Weaver caught two touchdown passes from Michael Hollomon, and Henry Ryne ran one in for Pingry, but the Big Blue fell to 1-4. Long Island Luthern scored a late touchdown to make it an eight-point game, and Pingry came up with a huge stop on an attempted 2-point conversion to stay within striking distance. But the ensuing drive ended in a fumble. Mason Vance caught a 2-point conversion toss for Pingry, while Jack Moye logged an interception.

FRIDAY RESULTS

Brearley 14, South Hunterdon 0: Quarterback Matt Sims ran for 128 yards and a touchdown, throwing for another score andBrearley remained undefeated. Sims, who completed 14-of-17 passes, hit Brendan Fitzsimmons with a nine-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and the Bears improved to 5-0. It’s Brearley’s second straight shutout and its third of the season. South Hunterdon, which was limited to just 96 yards of total offense, falls to 3-2, suffering its second straight shutout.

Cranford 35, Rahway 0: Liam Godwin connected on 4-of-5 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns, adding eight rushes for 127 yards and three more touchdowns and Cranford blanked Rahway. Godwin also grabbed an interception on defense and was 5-for-5 kicking extra points. Ryan Carracino and Ryan Lynskey each caught TD passes for the Cougars (3-2). Rahway has now been shutout in back-to-back games, falling to 3-2.

Hillsborough 14, Union 6: Shayne Powell scored two touchdowns and the Hillsborough defense made it stand up with a goal-line stand in the final seconds and the Raiders improved to 4-1. Union opened the scoring on the game’s first drive, as Todd Francis scored on a three-yard run. But Powell had the answer later in the second quarter, and sealed it with a fourth-quarter score.

Ridge 35, Bridgewater-Raritan 0: Jack Barisha threw three touchdown passes, and CJ Galusha caught a TD toss and ran in another as Ridge cruised to 4-2. Will Deady carried 20 times for 151 yards and a touchdown, adding three catches for 50 yards and a score. Dylan Sweeney scored a touchdown and recorded two first-half sacks for the Red Devils, who allowed just four first-half yards from scrimmage and just 77 for the game, sending Bridgewater-Raritan to 2-4.

Phillipsburg 21, Hunterdon Central 7: Jett Genovese completed 11-of-15 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns, and Matt Scerbo caught seven passes for 103 yards and two scores and Phillipsburg turned a 7-0 halftime lead into a 21-7 win. Xavier Moore chipped in 16-for-84 rushing with a touchdown for the Stateliners (5-0). RJ Hart connected with Connor Gray on a 27-yard TD pass in the final seconds of the third quarter for Hunterdon Central (2-4).

New Providence 27, A.L. Johnson 14: Ben Gullo rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns, and Jackson Zarinko hit Jack Verbaro with another score and New Providence (3-3) sent A.L. Johnson (4-1) to its first loss. Antwone Smikle returned a kickoff 80 yards for a Crusaders score, while Robert Gallagher scored on a six-yard run for ALJ.

St. Thomas 17, Hillside 7: Najee Lovejoy returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter, and Joel Marelis scored on a one-yard run early in the fourth and St. Thomas held off Hillside, dealing the Comets their first loss. Jack Joyce added a field goal in the win, as the Trojans improved to 5-1. Kendrell Gordon returned an interception 43 yards for a touchdown for Hillside (4-1).

The Trojans held Hillside to minus-one rushing yard in the first half and under 100 for the game. Israel Bey had 11 tackles (4 solo, 1 TFL), Davon Grant had 10 tackles (3 solos), Shawn Young had eight tackles (2 solo, 2 TFL), Elijah Thomas added seven tackles (2 solo, 1 TFL) and Lovejoy pitched in five tackles. Joel Marellis rushed for 106 yards on 37 carries and as a team STA rushed for 214 yards on 58 carries. Quarterback Jayden Young added 64 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Manville 27, Dunellen 0: Na’quavere Thomas rushed just three times, but gobbled up 145 yards and scored twice, and Shawn Purcell scored two touchdowns and forced a fumble on defense to power Manville (5-1). Thomas scored on a 58- yard run on the third play of the game and the Mustangs led 7-0 headed into halftime. Dunellen (2-3) opened the third quarter with a 13-play drive, but Purcell forced a fumble on the Mustangs’ 20, which was recovered by Aleks Starzynski. Next play, Thomas went 76 yards for a TD and it was 13-0. After a blocked punt, which Alex Orzol scooped up at the Dunellen 32-yard line, Purcell increased the lead, going 32 yards to the end zone on Manville’s first play of the ensuing drive. The Mustangs got the ball back when Danny Wildgoose recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter on the Dunellen 13, with Purcell going eight yards for a TD run two plays later.

Delaware Valley 53, Bound Brook 6: Justin Kolpan caught two touchdown passes and scored another on an interception, and Jack Bill threw two TD passes and ran 55 yards for another and Delaware Valley rolled to 4-1. Jeff Bate scooped a fumble and scored for the Terriers, who also got a kickoff return for a score from Keith Polin, as well as rushing TDs from Patrick Garlinghouse and Danny Shapiro. Bound Brook is 0-5.

Roselle 42, Metuchen 0: Emmanuel Lyles carried 11 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns, and William Peay ran 12 times for 103 yards and a score and Roselle finally got into the win column. Nafee Finney chipped in 93 yards and a score for the Rams (1-4), while Samir Rivet also got into the end zone in the win. Metuchen fell to 2-4.

Bernards 37, North Plainfield 0: Terrance Hanratty ran in two touchdowns, including a 50-yarder, and Connor Laverty connected on two TD passes, and Bernards rolled to 5-1. Nicky Koulfie also ran in a TD for the Mountaineers, while Charlie Gonella Jake Caldwell each hauled in scoring passes. Jonas Gonzalez opened the scoring with a 40-yard field goal for Bernards, adding three touchbacks on kickoffs. North Plainfield is 0-6.

Carteret 42, J.P. Stevens 6: Jakir Thomas scored two touchdowns and Tyrece Parrott threw a pair of TD passes and Carteret improved to 5-1. Kahad Thompson and Yariel Castellanos caught scoring passes for the Ramblers, who also got a 41-yard Jeremiah Serrano run for a score. The Hawks fell to 0-5.

Edison 44, New Brunswick 6: Matt Yascko delivered two touchdown passes, and Nyekir Eato scored on a pair of shot TD runs and Edison had no trouble securing the National Silver Division win. Michael Strachan and Ricky Harvey were on the receiving ends of the Eagles’ TD passes, while Jameel Parott and Jayden Crespo each scored on second-half runs in the win. Selbin Sabio, who began the game 5-for-5 kicking extra points before his last one was blocked, also chipped in a 23-yard field goal for the Eagles (4-2). Jihad Bright scored on a 75-yard pass from Josh Ponce in the third quarter for the Zebras (1-5).

Middlesex 37, Belvidere 12: Dom Parenti collected two touchdown runs, and Ricky Fittin finished 15-for-132 rushing with a TD and Middlesex rolled to 3-2. Mahki Parks also ran in a touchdown for the Blue Jays, while Jack Killian pitched in a first-quarter interception return for a score to make it 9-0. Middlesex had gotten things started earlier in the period when Nick Jamieson recorded a tackle in the end zone for a safety. Patrick Depew threw a TD pass and ran for another, while Mason Chamberlain caught a scoring toss for Belvidere (0-5).

Sayreville 35, East Brunswick 21: Zaimer Wright rushed for 214 yards and scored and quarterback Caidan Holmes scored three TDs and added a two-point conversion for Sayreville (3-2). East Brunswick fell to 0-5.

South Brunswick 27, Monroe 17: Khiri Summers rushed for 90 yards (on 23 carries) and a score and caught a 72-yard TD pass as the Vikings (3-2) won their third-straight game. South Brunswick had 336 total yards on 45 plays. Jacob Brokaw added 77 rushing yards, including TD runs of 61 and 10 yards. Jalen Jackson had two carries for 53 yards (a long of 49 yards). Quarterback Vin Jairdullo went 6-for-10 for 97 passing yards and Damarion Potts had five catches for 25 yards. Monroe fell to 2-3.
