Football roundup: BOLD nips BBE in a shootout, 38-36; BOLD, ACGC, KMS, Paynesville, D-B, YME and RCW all win

Oct. 20—BELGRADE — BOLD and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa put up a flurry of offense in the second half. Combined, the two teams scored 44 points over the final two quarters.

Ultimately, it was the fifth-ranked (Class A) Warriors that came out ahead in that outburst.

Down 28-12, BOLD scored 24 straight points to come out with a 36-34 Mid State 3 District victory in the regular-season finale on Wednesday.

The first half was dictated by home-run plays by both sides.

In the first drive of the game, the Jaguars faced 3rd-and-9 from the 16-yard line before Luke Dingmann hit Toby Cebulla up the middle with a pass. Cebulla raced down to the BOLD 5-yard line for an 84-yard reception. On the next play, running back Braeden Michels punched in a five-yard rushing score.

The Warriors' run game struck back with its own big plays. Hudson Vosika raced down the right sideline for an 80-yard score in the first quarter. Then in the second, Kaden Fischer broke through the BBE defense for a 44-yard touchdown.

Vosika had a game-high 166 rushing yards on 18 carries. Fischer ran 11 times for 116 yards. BOLD outgained BBE on the ground 323-41.

But the Jaguars' passing game gave the Warriors fits in the first half. And with 1 minute, 6 seconds left before halftime, BBE went ahead 14-12 after Dingmann connected with Luke Illies for a 9-yard score.

After the break, the Jaguars capitalized on a botched snap on a punt to get the ball in the red zone. Dingmann scored on a 2-yard QB sneak. Then after making a stop on 4th-and-2 on BOLD's next drive, BBE went up 28-12 when Dingmann connected with Owen Paulson for a 23-yard touchdown.

Dingmann threw for 304 yards on 22 of 31 passing. Dingmann threw to seven receivers, with Cebulla leading the way with five catches for 134 yards. Talen Kampsen hauled in six balls for 51 yards.

Down by 16, BOLD wasn't ready to roll over.

Stevie McMath cut the gap to eight with a 27-yard TD reception on a Jack Gross pass. Then a Gross pass to Ryan King from 16 yards tied the game at 28-all.

Fischer put in the go-ahead score on a 22-yard run with 7:46 to play.

BBE had a chance to tie it after Dingmann ran in a touchdown from a yard out put the score at 36-34 with 2:56 to play. But the Jaguars weren't able to convert the two-point attempt as the Warriors held onto the lead for good.

BOLD wraps up the regular season with a 7-1 record and looks to be the top seed in Section 5A when seeds are announced Thursday. BBE is 6-2 and looks to repeat as Section 4A champion.
