Football Roundup: Golden Valley, El Capitan, Dos Palos, SRC shine offensively in wins

Golden Valley High School junior Tyrell Johnson came up big on special teams and out of the backfield to help lead the Cougars to a 47-30 win over Sierra in Manteca on Friday night.

Johnson returned a kickoff for a touchdown and rushed for 110 yards and another score to help the Cougars improve to 2-1 with their second consecutive win.

Jonah White added a touchdown rushing and a touchdown catch for Golden Valley, which will host Pitman next week at Veterans Stadium.

El Capitan 43, Modesto Christian 20 — The Gauchos overcame a 14-point deficit at halftime to start the season 3-0 for the first time in school history.

The three wins ties the most wins in a season for El Capitan.

Senior Dejuan Franklin turned in a monster game for the Gauchos, rushing for 218 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries. Franklin also jumpstarted the comeback by returning the second half kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown.

Los Banos 33, Orestimba 14 — The Tigers defense shined as linebacker Cole Ramos recorded 11 tackles, two for sacks and blocked a punt for a touchdown.

Los Banos improved to 2-1 on the season.

Tigers defensive lineman Jett Lindeman added nine tackles and two sacks.

Los Banos quarterback David Herrera connected on two touchdown catches with Yahir Zuinga, who hauled in five catches for 79 yards. Herrera added 73 rushing yards and another score.

Tigers running back Joel Alvarenga finished with 16 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Le Grand 12, Hoover 0 — Bulldogs senior Alexis Granados rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown to help Le Grand improve to 3-0.

Bulldogs quarterback Diego Martinez threw for 161 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to Reyes Diaz.

Stone Ridge Christian 42, Golden Sierra 0 — Mario Perez threw two touchdowns and DJ O’neil and Carson Lund both scored rushing touchdowns as the Knights improved to 3-0 on the season.

Dos Palos 29, Liberty 22 — Sophomore running back Andre Flores carried the ball 22 times for 202 yards and three touchdowns as the Broncos improved to 2-1 this season.

Flores scored on a runs of 1, 62 and 63 yards to ignite the Dos Palos offense.
