Football roundup: Lansing Catholic tops Fowlerville, Fowler claims share of CMAC title

FOWLERVILLE -- Jack Jacobs picked up a game-high 185 yards passing and two touchdowns and ran for a team-high 83 yards and two scores to propel Lansing Catholic to a 41-14 nonleague road win over Fowlerville.

Brandon Lewis hauled in seven receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns and threw two scores to Braden Rabideau for Lansing Catholic (3-5). Blake Juopperi notched a team-high 46 yards rushing with two touchdowns and led the defense with five tackles for the Gladiators (3-5).

FOWLER 49, SARANAC 0

SARANAC -- Jacob Halfmann threw for 149 yards and a touchdown and ran back a 92-yard kick return for a score to push the Eagles to clinch a share of the CMAC title with a win over Saranac. Zach Halfmann ran for 49 yards and two scores, Nolan Stump ran for 50 yards and a touchdown and Huson Schlak tallied a team-high nine tackles and a fumble recovery for Fowler (7-1, 5-1). James Stevens led the defense with a team-high eight tackles for the Red Hawks (2-6, 1-5). JV score: Fowler 47, Saranac 8

MASON 35, JACKSON 6

Cason Carswell fell just a few yards short of a single-game school passing record, completing 15 of 18 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns for the CAAC Red champion and Division 3 No. 2-ranked Bulldogs in their nonconference win. Kaleb Parrish had 129 yards receiving and two touchdowns and Colin Page had 75 yards receiving and two scores for Mason. Tyler Baker added 14 tackles and a fumble recovery for the Bulldogs (8-0).

SEXTON 23, EASTERN 7

John Douglas had 106 yards rushing and two scores and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown for Sexton in its rivalry win. Dai'john Chandler threw for 95 yards and rushed for 44 yards and Jeffrey Hudson had 11 tackles to lead the defense for Sexton (4-4).

DeWITT 49, DETROIT LOYOLA 28

DeWITT -- Trav Moore ran for a team-high 115 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers picked up a nonleague home win over Detroit Loyola (1-7). Bryce Kurncz picked up 38 yards rushing with two touchdowns, Rece Baker notched 70 yards on the ground with a touchdown and kicker Brandon Soltis tied a MHSAA record for most extra points made with 181 for DeWitt (5-3).

ST. JOHNS 28, IONIA 26

ST. JOHNS -- The Redwings held off Ionia in the final two minutes. stopping a game-tying 2-point conversion for the nonleague victory. Mark Bendele carried the ball 21 times for 123 yards and a touchdown, Carson Pieters threw for 74 yards and two total scores and Jack Ballard picked up 74 yards receiving and a touchdown to go with a rushing score for St. Johns (2-7). Travis Tucker Jr. led all rushers with 131 yards and three touchdowns and Aden Wenzel notched a team-high five tackles for the Bulldogs (3-5).

HASLETT 42, WAVERLY 6

DELTA TWP. -- Nakai Amachree led the Vikings with a game-high 128 yards rushing and two touchdowns as Haslett secured a third straight victory with a road win over Waverly. Micah Thompson opened up the scoring with a 67-yard punt return for a score, Isaac Pavona threw for a touchdown and Conner Bailey and D’Angelo Fitzpatrick each hauled in receiving scores for Haslett (6-2). Ronnie Spencer threw for a team-high 84 yards and ran for 27 yards and Jahi Wood notched 75 yards rushing and touchdown for the Warriors (4-4).

CHARLOTTE 44, FLINT HAMADY 34

FLINT -- Christian Powers completed 9 of 11 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown and Cutler Brandt ran for 115 yards and two scores for the Orioles (7-1) in their nonleague win over Division 5 honorable mention Flint Hamady. Braden Hill ran for 94 yards and a touchdown and had three receptions for 82 yards for Charlotte.

LAINGSBURG 34, PERRY 14

LAINGSBURG -- Ty Randall led the Wolfpack with 212 yards passing and two scores and ran for 67 yards and a touchdown as Laingsburg notched a nonleague victory over Perry. Connor Hulliberger picked up 102 yards receiving and a touchdown, Mikey Brooks tallied 88 yards rushing and a score and Hayden Johnson hauled in a team-high six catches for 57 yards and a touchdown for Laingsburg (6-2). Austin Poirier threw for 98 yards with a score and ran for 60 yards and a touchdown and Timothy Hall tallied 98 yards receiving with a touchdown for the Ramblers (3-5).

CORUNNA 28, SWARTZ CREEK 27

SWARTZ CREEK -- The Cavaliers outlasted Swartz Creek (6-2) in the fourth quarter after a failed two-point conversion for a Flint Metro League crossover win. Wyatt Bower threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns and ran for a team-high 63 yards. Peyton TerMeer grabbed 42 yards receiving and two touchdowns and Dylan Quirk and Jaden Edington each chipped in receiving scores for Corunna (7-1).

STOCKBRIDGE 33, ST. CHARLES 0

ST. CHARLES -- Quarterback Drew Robinson led the Panthers with 81 yards passing, 77 yards rushing and three total touchdowns as Stockbridge secured a road nonleague over St. Charles (2-6). Gary Killinger picked up 75 yards rushing and a touchdown and a team-high 10 tackles and Zach Fletcher hauled in three receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown for Stockbridge (5-3).

OVID-ELSIE 54, MT. MORRIS 18

ELSIE -- Tryce Tokar threw for 164-yards and two touchdowns and ran in a score as the Marauders picked up a MMAC home win over Mt. Morris (1-7, 1-5). Perrien Rasch ran for a team-high 102 yards and a touchdown, Clay Wittenberg grabbed 79 yards receiving and a score and Carter Kelley, Logan Thompson, Isaac Orta and Cohen Brown each chipped in a rushing touchdown for Ovid-Elsie (6-2, 5-1).

LESLIE 22, EATON RAPIDS 13

EATON RAPIDS -- Down three at halftime, the Blackhawks scored 12 unanswered points in the second half en route to a nonleague road win. Jayden Colby threw for a game-high 189 yards and a touchdown, Ethan Kaimon grabbed four receptions for 102 yards and a score and Evan Dexter chipped in a rushing touchdown for Leslie (2-6). Will Ribby threw for 147 yards and a touchdown, Dontae Parker hauled in 73 yards receiving and Ethan Gaston added 59 yards receiving and a touchdown for the Greyhounds (0-8).

MAPLE VALLEY 35, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN (INDIANA) 0

VERMONTVILLE -- Andrew Shepard led the Lions with 107 yards rushing and three touchdowns as Maple Valley secured a win over Blackhawk Christian (5-3), which is out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ayden Wilkes tallied a game-high 137 yards and a touchdown and Tyler Rose tacked on 78 yards and a score for Maple Valley (3-5).

MORRICE 46, PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 24

PORTLAND -- Brayden Simon ran for a team-high 78 yards and two touchdowns and hauled in a receiving score for the Shamrocks in a Central Michigan 8-Man loss to Morrice (7-1, 7-1). Brady Leonard threw for 36 yards and a touchdown and Tyler Groothuis grabbed 34 yards receiving for Portland St. Patrick (3-5, 3-5).

ITHACA 49, CARROLLTON 0

CARROLLTON -- Nathan Mikesell ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns as the Division 7 No. 4-ranked Yellowjackets (7-1) pushed their win streak to six. Bronson Bupp ran for two scores and threw for a touchdown for Ithaca.
