Football Roundup: Los Banos, Merced both clinch league championships with victories

The Los Banos High School football team clinched their second consecutive Western Athletic Conference championship with a 37-20 win over Lathrop on Friday night at Loftin Stadium.

Senior quarterback David Herrera led the way for the Tigers (6-0 WAC, 8-1 overall), completing 8 of 11 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Herera also added 120 rushing yards and another two touchdowns.

Los Banos running back Joel Alvarenga carried the ball 20 times for 106 yards.

The Tigers defense was led by Cole Ramos, who recorded 14 tackles. Eddie Sweet (10 tackles), Adan Salas (nine tackles) and Jett Lindeman (nine tackles) all played well on defense.

Merced 59, Buhach Colony 8 — The Bears (5-0 Central California Conference, 6-3) routed the Thunder to clinch at least a share of the CCC championship.

Merced blocked two punts resulting in a touchdown and a safety as the Bears jumped out to a 52-0 lead at the half.

Atwater 39, Central Valley 29 — The Falcons celebrated senior night with a victory over the Hawks in their final regular season game.

Atwater quarterback James Bell threw two touchdowns with Landon Perez and Isaias Cardenas each hauling in a scoring strike. Perez added a 50-yard touchdown run.

AJ Banks, Jesus Avila and Jeremiah Delarosa all added a touchdown run for the Falcons (4-2 CCC, 6-4 overall).

Patterson 63, Golden Valley 29 — The Cougars (2-3 CCC, 5-3) couldn’t slow down the Tigers offensive attack.

Golden Valley running back Tyrrell Johnson scored two touchdowns with runs of 8 and 47 yards.

The Cougars close out the regular season next week at home against El Capitan.

Livingston 47, Modesto Christian 22 — Sebastian Casanova had a monster game for the Wolves, scoring four touchdowns.

Casanova scored two rushing touchdowns and returned two interceptions for scores of 50 and 20 yards.

Livingston’s Zack Duran rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown and Alex Hernandez added 96 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Livingston improved to 2-2 in the Trans-Valley League and 3-6 overall.

Stone Ridge Christian 35, Big Valley Christian 7 — The Knights opened up Central California Athletic Alliance play with a victory to improve to 7-1 overall.

Daijon O’Neil carried the ball six times for 149 yards and a touchdown to lead the SRC offense. Quarterback Mario Perez completed 11 of 14 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

Carson Lund led the Knights defense with 15 tackles.

Le Grand 28, Delhi 21 — Sophomore Diego Martinez threw two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead the Bulldogs to a victory.

Martinez connected with Miguel Moreno and Brian Santos on touchdown passes as Martinez completed 12 of 17 passes for 200 yards. Martinez also scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter to give Le Grand (4-2 Southern League, 7-2 overall) a 28-14 lead.

Le Grand running back Alexis Granados added 130 rushing yards, including a 55-yard touchdown run.

Ricardo Chan gave Delhi an early 7-0 lead with an 88-yard touchdown run. Alex Fuentes added a 55-yard touchdown run for the Hawks and teammate Antonio Gutierrez scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 28-21.

Dos Palos 14, Firebaugh 6 — Drake Hennagan rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown as the Broncos remained unbeaten in the West Sierra League at 4-0 and 8-1 overall.

Sophomore Andre Flores added an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for Dos Palos.

The Broncos will host Coalinga with the WSL championship on the line next week in the final regular season game.
