Football Roundup: Los Banos runs wild in Westside War victory over Dos Palos

Joel Alvarenga and David Herrera led the way as the Los Banos High School football team rushed for 394 yards to defeat Dos Palos 33-22 in the Westside War on Friday night at Loftin Stadium.

Alvarenga rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns at running back and Herrera added 141 yards and a touchdown run from quarterback.

“I was impressed with the way we played,” said Los Banos head coach Dustin Caropreso. “Coming into the season I knew we could hang our hat on running the football. We basically lined up and said, ‘Here we come.’”

Dos Palos quarterback Peyton Van Worth threw two touchdowns and sophomore running back Andre Flores 144 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Atwater 33, Pacheco 14 — Falcons quarterback James Bell threw two touchdowns and rushed for another score in his first start.

Junior receiver Seneca Ybarra Jr. caught two touchdowns, including a trick play for Atwater’s first score from AJ Banks.

Gregori 40, Buhach Colony 9 — The Jaguars took advantage of some Thunder mistakes early, cashing in on good field position after a couple bad snaps and a BC fumble.

Eric Thrasher returned a kickoff for Buhach Colony’s lone touchdown.

Central Catholic 42, Merced 12 — The Raiders scored on their first two offensive plays and rushed for over 400 yards in the win.

Adarias Morales-Saetern led Merced with 76 rushing yards and scored both touchdowns, including a 57-yard catch from Quintell Dupree.

Le Grand 21, Livingston 19 — Bulldogs senior Alexis Granados rushed for 217 yards on 17 carries and sophomore quarterback Diego Martinez accounted for three touchdowns in the win.

Martinez connected with Reyes Diaz and Miguel Moreno for scoring strikes and added a six-yard touchdown run to help give Le Grand a 21-7 lead at the half.

Sebastian Casanova broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run for Livingston in the first quarter.

The Wolves scored two late touchdowns to cut the lead to 21-19.

Stone Ridge Christian 28, Calaveras 13 — Sophomore DJ O’neil scored two touchdowns and pulled down two interceptions to lead the Knights to a victory in the head coaching debut of SRC’s Anthony DeJager.

Kerman 35, Chowchilla 13 — Dwayne Hemphill scored the Tribe’s lone touchdown a 3-yard run. Chowchilla quarterback Benson Soares to an injury in the second quarter.

Receiver Davian Stephenson shifted to quarterback and threw a two-point conversion to Dellvonta Vaughn.
