Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre is celebrating its 50th anniversary season in 2023 by bringing back its most popular musical and by showing works that haven't yet graced its stage.

First, the best-selling show: "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" will return in October 2023. Shows new to the theater — "Clue," "An American in Paris" and "Grumpy Old Men" — are sprinkled throughout the year.

Beef & Boards first invited Indianapolis audiences inside the northwest-side building in 1973 as part of a string of dinner theaters. J. Scott Talbott built it for his daughter, who loved theater, according to a news release from Beef & Boards. "Tom Jones" was the first show.

Douglas E. Stark and Bob Zehr bought the theater in 1980 and brought in acts including B.B. King, Carol Channing and Tina Turner. Then they moved toward producing musical theater as more concert venues opened in Indianapolis. Zehr has since left, and Stark’s children have become part-owners of the theater at 9301 Michigan Road, according to the release.

Tickets for the 2023 season go on sale Oct. 1 and range from $52.50 to $79.50. That includes the dinner buffet, fruit and salad bar, coffee, tea and lemonade. VIP memberships are on sale now. Groups and kids ages 3 to 15 can receive discounts. Children under age 3 are not admitted to mainstage shows. Buy tickets at beefandboards.com or by calling 317-872-9664.
