Forbes Advisor: Ohio ranks No. 10 for road rage in the U.S.

Buckle up, Ohioans. We have some angry drivers on the road.

A recent report by Forbes Advisor ranked Ohio as No. 10 for states with the most confrontational drivers in the U.S.

According to the study, 76% of Ohio drivers said that another driver has honked at them in frustration, the fourth highest amount in the nation. Ohio has the seventh-highest percentage of drivers who said another driver had intentionally cut them off (51.5%.) The Buckeye State also has the eighth-highest percentage of drivers who have received rude or offensive gestures while driving (63%).

Kentucky ranks 40th and Indiana ranks 42nd. However, another bordering state - West Virginia - ranks third.

Road rage incidents are on the rise nationwide, per the report. Approximately 413 people were injured in road rage shootings in 2022, a 135% increase from 2018.

Road rage incidents in Ohio have also remained elevated after a significant jump in 2021, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Ohio averaged 1,752 road rage incidents a year between 2018 and 2020, The Enquirer reported in May. During the past two years, that number has jumped more than 16% to more than 2,030 incidents. This year is on pace to remain elevated.

To determine its findings, Forbes Advisor and market research company OnePoll surveyed 10,000 licensed drivers ages 18 and older who owned at least one car and compared its data across all 50 states. Respondents were asked about being forced off the road, blocked from changing lanes, cut off on purpose, yelled at, insulted or threatened.
