Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ Are Recalled for Seat-Belt Concerns

Ford is recalling 103,374 of its 2015 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ cars because the seat-belt anchors may not work properly. A device called a pretensioner rapidly locks a seat belt in place when the car detects a crash. If this safety system doesn't work properly, there's an increased risk of injury.
Ford says it's aware of one injury related to the defect.
The company says it will begin notifying customers on Sept. 9, and dealerships will be prepared by then to fix the problem. A Ford spokesperson said in an email to CR that customers should have the work done soon after they're notified.

Vehicles recalled: 103,374 cars.
2015 Ford Fusions built at the Flat Rock, Mich., assembly plant from Aug. 1, 2014, through Jan. 30, 2015, and at the Hermosillo assembly plant in Mexico from Aug. 1, 2014, through Nov. 24, 2014.
2015 Lincoln MKZs built at the Hermosillo assembly plant from Aug. 1, 2014, through Nov. 21, 2014.
The problem: The cable anchor on the retractor side within the seat-belt pretensioning system can become overheated during a crash and may not be able to restrain a passenger properly.
The fix: Dealers will apply a coating to protect the cable, at no charge to owners.
