From Car and Driver

  • With the SEMA aftermarket trade show only weeks away, Ford is showing some of the Super Duty treatments it will have there.

  • These special Super Duty trucks get lift kits, light treatments, and upgraded suspensions, among other goodies.

  • SEMA takes place from November 5–8 in Las Vegas.

The newest Super Duty is an already very tall pickup with the visual height-to-width ratio of a coach bus. Ford knows that few of its customers truly require such high payload and tow ratings, but they also know that many of them will go full tilt in customizing these heavy-duty rigs. Enter the factory's five concepts for the SEMA aftermarket trade show in Las Vegas next month. (We'll update with real photos when the show begins November 5.)

LGE-CTS Motorsports Baja Forged F-250 XLT

LGE-CTS is a collision repairer and machine shop in San Dimas, California, run by two women who've cut the Super Duty down into its basic elements (the LG stands for their parents, Louie and Gerry, who founded the body shop in the 1980s; both daughters now run the company). Swapping the factory bed with a flatbed and a fabric canopy top takes this army green F-250 into old-school territory. Just look at the diagonal taillights and cab lights pressed into the bed’s hard edges—this is not some pampered space with damped tailgates and fancy power outlets. But the truck comes with a refrigerator and a safe built into the floor. There are also bronze wheels on 37-inch tires hanging off a 4.5-inch lift kit, because the Super Duty wasn’t high enough off the ground.

Ford Accessories F-250 Tremor

The Tremor name is back and shaking on 2020 Super Duty pickups as the most rugged trail-ready trim. Beyond the standard two-inch lift, 35-inch Goodyear Wranger Duratrac tires, Dana limited-slip front differential and a locking rear differential, there’s a winch neatly hidden within the bumper that Ford will make available early next year. Bed bars (Ford calls it a chase rack) combine with a 50-inch-wide LED light bar, decals to make the truck look like someone smashed into it, and a few other items showcase Ford’s factory accessories.

DeBerti Design F-450 Platinum

This monochrome monster sports an air suspension atop 22-inch dualie wheels. Hopefully it can raise this F-450's ride height, because the front chin spoiler is nearly as low as the Shelby GT500 we’re driving in the Vegas desert this week. The father-and-son team from Arroyo Grande, California, call themselves the Twin Turbos (the name of their Discovery TV show). We don’t know what’s powering this Super Duty, but we do know it has plenty of hidden storage, such as the drawer that pulls out of the rear bumper and the cabinets that pull out of the rear fenders, plus a safe.

BDS Suspension F-350 XLT

Does a copper-colored camping truck on 40-inch tires sound good to you? If you’re not cooking with the two-burner propane grill out back, you’ll be sitting inside on black and brown leather seats thumping to a Kicker stereo. A four-inch lift and upgraded Fox coil-overs and shocks do the dirty work, and thank goodness the the 6.7-liter diesel V-8 doesn’t also get dirty like older Super Duty pickups. That’s a long climb up to that tent, so best not move while you sleep.

CGS Performance Products F-250 Tremor

This one’s a mild upgrade with 37-inch General tires, a power-retracting bed cover, and a bed carpet that immediately will be ruined as soon as we step inside with our muddy boots. The red paint is custom, too.
