Ford has issued a recall for certain 2020 Mustangs equipped with automatic transmissions because the bracket that holds the brake pedal may fracture during "sudden stopping," increasing the risk of a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall site, 38,005 vehicles produced between March 4, 2019 and August 13, 2020 are potentially affected, though it doesn't state which trim levels are involved. A safety report issued alongside the recall states Ford was made aware of six separate incidents of the bracket failing in Mustangs; four in Europe, and two in North America.

No crashes or injuries have been associated with the defect.

Ford's fix is to replace the entire brake pedal bracket assembly, free of charge. NHTSA says the recall isn't expected to begin until November 16, 2020. So until then, we recommend avoiding threshold brake stops in your automatic 2020 Mustang.
