Forecast for rains leads to Girardville St. Patrick's Day Parade postponement

Mar. 22—Organizers of the Girardville St. Patrick's Day parade announced in a website post Wednesday that they have postponed the event until April 1 because rain is forecast Saturday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting an 80% chance of rain on Saturday.

The 21st parade will be dedicated to first responders in light of the deaths in December 2022 of two firefighters battling a fire in West Penn Twp.

"Honoring Volunteer Firemen," a five-division parade with marching bands, floats and antique vehicles, is scheduled to step off at noon.

Mike Kitsock, grand marshal, will lead the parade in an antique firetruck from the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society museum in Shenandoah.

The parade, billed as "the biggest little St. Patrick's Day Parade," traditionally attracts thousands of visitors to Girardville.
