Forest Whitaker to receive Palme d'Or at Cannes
STORY: The award “pays tribute to a sparkling artistic journey, a rare personality as well as a discreet but strong humanitarian commitment to key topical issues,” the festival said in a statement on Thursday.
The 60-year-old American previously won the Best Actor award at the French festival, for the 1988 film “Bird”.
“34 years ago, attending Cannes for the first time changed my life, and assured me that I’d made the right decision to devote myself to finding connectivity in humanity through film,” said Whitaker in a statement.
Whitaker won the Academy Award for best actor in 2007 for a critically hailed performance as Ugandan ruler Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland.”
Actress and director Jodie Foster picked up the award at the 74th edition of the festival in 2021.
The 75th Cannes Film Festival runs from May 17-28th.
