At Your Service: 'Forever' stamp question

Question: I thought that buying “forever” stamps meant that they were kept at that price forever. I’ve found that’s not true. Why not?

Answer: Perhaps your experience with trying to utilize a “forever” stamp was some type of special circumstance. I can only speculate that perhaps the letter you were trying to send was over weight. According to the U.S. Post Office website, a forever stamp will always be sufficient to mail out a 1 ounce letter. Here’s what their website had to say:

A "Forever" stamp "will always be accepted as having the same value of whatever the current first-class stamp is. You can use forever stamps to mail internationally but you will need to add additional postage — their value is the same as a first-class stamp the day you mail it, which is enough for domestic letters, but not enough for international ones. This also applies to letters that are over-weight; you will need to add more postage. International mailing was simplified with the more recent release of the Global Forever® Stamp. These are just like the domestic first class letter Forever Stamp, only for international delivery."

I’ve got a couple questions that have stumped me. First, I have a reader who was recently widowed. She’s looking for a handyperson she can hire for odd jobs around her home. If any handy folks out there would be willing to do these jobs for a reasonable fee shoot an email to me and I’ll get your info to the AYS reader who asked for assistance.

I’ve also got a reader who has a collection of cancelled stamps and a collection of tabs from beverage cans. The charities she donated these items to are no longer accepting them. If a charity, church, school group, etc., in the community is collecting these items, please get in touch and I’ll put the information in a future AYS column.

Our thanks to the reader who asked this question. Here’s where to send your comments or inquiries: At Your Service, Rob Stemple, Daily American newsroom, P.O. Box 638, Somerset, PA 15501 or email robstemple@comcast.net

Rob Stemple resides in Shanksville with his wife, Wendy. Although things are starting to open up, for the most part Rob still can’t provide music at many of the area nursing homes and other facilities where he formerly performed. He’s turned to the internet to get his music out into the world. Check out his music videos on the “Robin Stemple” channel on YouTube. Rob also has seven CD's of instrumental hymns available, with the release of Hymns 7 last week. CD’s are all available at no cost.
