He proposed, among other things, an unconditional ceasefire and the establishment of a demilitarised zone as the current situation negatively affects the people of the entire world and has caused rise in food and energy prices.

"First, cease fire and hostilities immediately. Second, deploy the troops on each side 15 kilometers from the current front line and create a demilitarized zone, and third, create a peacekeeping mission under the auspices of the UN that will monitor the observance of the ceasefire regime," Subianto outlined his position, while proposing to hold a "referendum" on the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.

A a ceasefire, however, wouldn't lead to peace but rather to a break for the Russian army that would allow them to gather strength for further aggression, Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko clarified.

"There are no disputed territories between Ukraine and the Russian Federation to hold referendums. Having committed an act of aggression, Russia occupied Crimea, parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhzia, and Kherson oblasts. It's a fact registered by the UN official documentation..." he wrote on Facebook.

"A ceasefire, withdrawal of forces to a 15-kilometer distance, and the creation of a demilitarized zone will not work. Russia is now trying every possible way to disrupt the Ukrainian counteroffensive. A ceasefire without the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine will allow Russia to win time, regroup, gain a foothold in the occupied territories, and accumulate forces for a new wave of aggression," Nikolenko said.

Besides, Russia is guilty of an extended number of war crimes committed on the occupied areas, he reminded.

"In the occupied territories, the Russian army commits war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Russia has to get away from Ukraine, and Ukraine needs to regain its territorial integrity within the internationally recognised borders. There are no alternative scenarios... Long-lasting peace in Ukraine means liberation of Ukrainian territories from Russian occupation. This is what the peace formula by President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine is aimed at. We invite Indonesia to join its active implementation," the diplomat added.
