Forgotten Harvest to host event at downtown Detroit’s Beacon Park Friday evening
Head to Downtown Detroit’s Beacon Park Friday evening for a film under the summer sky and to support an important social cause.
Food rescue organization Forgotten Harvest will be hosting “Harvest Heatwave,'' featuring food, drinks, outdoor games, music and a screening of the movie, The Sandlot. The event runs from 6-10:30 p.m. at 1901 Grand River Ave.
The Oak Park-based organization is one of the largest food rescue groups in the country and has worked to redirect food that would end up as waste to the hungry for more than 30 years.
The harvest will include a “Food Truck Village,” featuring food from Satellite, The Drunken Rooster, which offers tacos with a Mediterranean twist, Nu Deli, which offers deli sandwiches with an Indian twist, a Guernsey Farms Dairy ice cream station and a pop-up bar by Lumen.
Earlier this year, Forgotten Harvest opened a new 78,000-square-foot distribution center and warehouse in Oak Park. The organization helps children, families, and seniors living in southeast Michigan.

Tickets for the event cost $50 for adults and include a meal ticket, unlimited non-alcoholic beverages, and access to event activities, according to a news release. The event is free for children.
Proceeds from the tickets will go to Forgotten Harvest’s efforts to fight food waste and food insecurity.
