Former 7-Eleven destroyed in Rainier Valley fire
Firefighters put out flames burning through a vacant building in Seattle’s Rainier Valley.
The fire erupted in what used to be a 7-Eleven at 2009 Rainier Avenue South, before 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Crews arrived to find flames shooting through the roof.
Because it was too dangerous to go inside, crews poured water on the fire at a safe distance from the building.
The fire caused the building’s roof to collapse, and firefighters used ladders to get water on the flames.
The fire was knocked down by 6:15 a.m. but smoke continued to rise from the ruins. The building was destroyed.
Seattle Fire spokesperson David Cuerpo said the building had been vacant for at least six months. No injuries were reported.
The building is adjacent to a Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream shop. Firefighters searched the business but no one was inside.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
