NASHVILLE (WHNT) — Broadcaster Eli Gold is on the move after being let go from his role as the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide this week.

The Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League announced Friday that Gold will be the Voice of the Kats. Gold will handle all play-by-play responsibilities for all games this season.

“It is an honor and privilege for the Kats to have the legendary Eli Gold be our voice and be part of our franchise in a variety of ways,” said Nashville Kats founding partner and CEO Tamara Dadd Alan, an Alabama graduate. “We are not only excited to hear him on the calls of our games, but also how he will become a leader in the community as part of our franchise outreach.”

Gold’s contract was not renewed by the Crimson Tide Sports Network this week. Intially, it was reported that Gold was retiring. However, quickly, Gold refuted these reports saying he wasn’t stepping away from the mic.

“I am not retiring,” Gold told AL.com “The university has chosen, as they say, to go in a different direction. And that’s certainly their right.”

The Kats will kick off their season on April 27 as a part of their 10 game season.
