Paul Tyson, the great-grandson of Alabama legend Paul "Bear" Bryant, is going west.

Tyson, an Alabama football redshirt sophomore backup QB in 2021, announced he is transferring to Arizona State via social media on Sunday.

"Let’s get to work… #ForksUp," Tyson tweeted.

Tyson was a four-star prospect out of Hewitt-Trussville High School in the Class of 2019. Tyson redshirted his first season and did not play in 2020. This past season, Tyson attempted a pass in five games. He went 10-of-16 for 150 yards in mop-up duty in 2021.

Tyson also served as the field goal holder in 2021.

He announced that he would be entering the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Tyson's departure leaves the Crimson Tide with just one quarterback with any collegiate experience behind Bryce Young for next season. Jalen Milroe, a freshman last season, threw seven passes and had 15 carries in four games of relief. Alabama has incoming 5-star freshman Ty Simpson as another option as the No. 2 quarterback for 2022 as the roster stands.
