Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods' memorial service on Friday to be livestreamed

A public memorial service was set for 10 a.m. Friday to celebrate the life of former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods.

The event will be livestreamed on azcentral.com, through the website of Woods' law practice, www.grantwoodslaw.com, and on screens set up on the plaza outside the downtown Orpheum Theatre.

Woods died of a heart attack on Oct. 23 at age 67. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Galan Woods, and their five children. They will speak at the event, as well as eulogists Cindy McCain and Charles Barkley.

Woods served two terms as attorney general but remained in the public eye after leaving office 22 years ago.

The Rev. Warren Stewart Sr. will officiate. He is the pastor of First Institutional Baptist Church and served as the chairman of the successful campaign to establish a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in Arizona, a cause that Woods supported.

People interested in attending the event are advised to arrive early; organizers request that all attendees be seated no later than 9:45 a.m. Masks are required, and bags, purses and backpacks must be no bigger than 5 inches by 8 inches by 1 inch deep, per Orpheum requirements. There are exceptions for diaper bags and medical equipment bags.

The Orpheum is at 203 W. Adams St.
