A former Arkansas FBI agent convicted in an evidence destruction case, was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court for The Western District of Arkansas.

Robert Cessario was sentenced to three years probation, ordered to home confinement six months and a $25,000 fine.

The U.S. Justice Department has reported that on Aug. 17, 2022, Robert F. Cessario, previously assigned to the FBI’s Fayetteville field office, pleaded guilty to one count of corruptly destroying an object with the intent to impair its integrity and availability for use in an official proceeding.

In a statement released by DOJ, from Dec. 4-6, 2017, Cessario was accused of erasing the contents of his government computer hard drive.

Cessario knew the court "had ordered the computer to be submitted for forensic examination, with the intent to impair the integrity and availability of the computer hard drive and its contents for use in an official proceeding," prosecutors alleged.

Cessario allegedly admitted that he had obtained recordings from a cooperating defendant in connection with the same official proceeding and placed those recordings on his government computer, and that he wiped the computer after questions arose about when and in what manner he had obtained the recordings.  The investigation was conducted by the Dallas Field Office, U.S. Justice Department reported.
