Before becoming a political commentator for CNN, Bottoms served as the 60th mayor of Atlanta.

Bottoms will step into the senior advisor role, replacing Cedric Richmond.

“I am deeply honored that President Joe Biden has entrusted me to serve as Senior Advisor to the President for Public Engagement. As we continue to navigate historic global challenges, it remains important to have a diversity of thought and experiences within the White House. I am looking forward to helping continue the impactful work that is being done on behalf of the American people,” Bottoms said in a statement.
